our name

the cornerstone of a building is the first stone laid, and determines the very foundation of the building itself.  the foundation of a building—essential, indispensable, basic—is the cornerstone! from the cornerstone all plans extend. Upon the cornerstone all construction grows.

Christ is the Cornerstone

the scriptures are replete with passages referencing the foundation importance of the Cornerstone:

     “behold, I am laying in zion a stone, a tested stone,
      a costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed.
      he who believes in it will not be disturbed.”  Isaiah 28:16, 17

      the stone which the builders rejected
      has become the chief cornerstone.
      this is the Lord’s doing;
      it is marvelous in our eyes.   Psalm 118:22, 23

the apostles referred these passages to Jesus:
     “coming to Him as to a living stone, which has been rejected by men, but is choice and          precious in the sight of God… for this is contained in scripture: ‘behold, I lay in zion a choice stone, a precious cornerstone, and he who believes in Him will not be disappointed’ ” 1 Peter 2:4, 6

Jesus is the Cornerstone of the church!
any building, any bridge depends upon the foundation that is laid, and the foundation depends upon the quality and placement of the cornerstone.  so, too, the church depends upon Christ! at the cornerstone church Christ is foundational. anything of significance must be built upon Him.  thus the name—the cornerstone church! when we invite people to “come to Cornerstone,” we are not simply inviting them to church, we are inviting them into a relationship with Jesus Himself. upon Jesus our culture is built. mission, vision, values, organization, beliefs—all are constructed upon Jesus, the Cornerstone of our faith.  as Jesus Himself said,
     “everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock.  the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock” Matthew 7:24-27
